Noni Iridoids

Sign of quality

Iridoids belong to the so called secondary plant substances
iridoide

which have been found in more than 50 plant families. Up to
now, more than 2500 iridoids have been discovered – e.g. the
noni-fruit! Iridoids belong to the large group of terpenes or
isoprenoids. The biosynthesis of isoprenoids mainly happens in
the plastids. Iridoids are monoterpenes, which means that they
are a synthesis of two isoprene units - C5-bodies - and are consisting
of ten carbon atoms (C10-body). Iridoids in general represent
bicyclic monoterpenes. The name of the main body, Iridodial, is
derived from the ant Iridomyrmex detectus that produces iridoid
compounds as defensive secretions.
